The Road Home

"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."

Hebrews 12:14 (NIV)

Life on earth resembles a temporary errand, after which every person is expected to return home. God created humanity (Genesis 2:7), yet whether every human being will ultimately return to Him remains a deeply personal and eternal question. For Christians, one truth stands certain: they have taken the right route on their journey back to God. Heaven is not a mirage but a genuine destination, the true home for every believer serving as Christ's ambassador on earth, representing His kingdom business until the day they return. No one should mistake this earth for a permanent residence, because Scripture makes clear that every person will eventually leave it (Hebrews 9:27). Jesus provided the only certain and safe path back to God, declaring Himself the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), a decision unlike so many uncertain choices made in this life, this one carries absolute assurance.

This road home is filled with joy because of what awaits at its end, glory so great that it surpasses human imagination (Romans 8:18). Like any well-built highway, this road did not happen by accident. It required careful planning, and Jesus, as the master architect, designed the perfect route and provided the coordinates needed to navigate it faithfully. Importantly, this road is meant for those pursuing clean, holy lives, since Hebrews 12:14 instructs believers to make every effort to live in peace and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. As ambassadors representing Christ's kingdom here, careful, intentional living matters, planning each step with eternity in view. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as Savior, today is the day to be baptized into His kingdom and begin walking this road of holiness that leads home.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to live with eternity in view, walking the road of holiness You have laid out for me. Remind me daily that this earth is not my permanent home and that You have prepared something far greater. Strengthen me to represent Your kingdom faithfully until I arrive home. Amen.
