"A woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table."
Matthew 26:7 (NIV)A woman came to Jesus with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume and poured it on His head as He reclined at the table (Matthew 26:7). Some thought it a waste. Jesus called it a beautiful thing (Matthew 26:10). Her costly gift showed where her heart was. Our commitment to Christ shows the same way, in how we spend our time and our money. Time is the one resource every person shares. We guard it, schedule it, and know that once a day is gone it never returns. Yet time belongs to God, just like everything else we have. Each day is a gift, given so that we can serve and glorify Him in the classroom, at work, and wherever life takes us.
Money tells the same story. People committed to the things of this world never struggle to find money for their pleasures, while many works of God go underfunded. Wholesome entertainment is not wrong, but we should ask honestly where our best resources go. Our money is not really ours. It is on loan from God. As Christ's ambassadors, we are managers of what belongs to Another, and others are watching how we handle it. Pray today about how you spend your time and money. Our actions speak louder than our words. May we all hear one day, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21).
Lord, everything I have belongs to You, including my time and my money. Teach me to be a faithful steward of both. Help me to spend them in ways that serve You and show my love for You. May I one day hear You say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Amen.
