God Always Has a Spokesman

"Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: 'See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones...'"

Jude 14 (NIV)

History consistently shows that hope in a troubled world comes through faithful preaching, and God has always raised up a spokesman in times of crisis. Jude 14 records how Enoch preached judgment to a corrupt generation, confronting the same struggles humanity still faces today. Two generations later, Noah found himself in a position that might never have existed without Enoch's faithful example before him. Noah himself is described in 2 Peter 2:5 as a preacher of righteousness, spending 120 years primarily devoted to proclaiming truth, with building the ark occupying only his remaining time. Without someone willing to stand in the gap and speak, entire generations might have drifted without warning or direction.

David's own story illustrates this same principle. His sin with Bathsheba went unaddressed by his own conscience until Nathan arrived to confront him directly. Without that spokesman, David's story, and his place in eternity, might have looked entirely different. Centuries later, Solomon took up this same role as "the preacher" in Ecclesiastes, deliberately setting aside his royal identity to speak as one who had searched exhaustively for meaning in life and found it lacking apart from God (Ecclesiastes 1:1, 12). His conclusion, after using every resource available to him, was that life under the sun offers no lasting answers outside of faith in God, and he devoted himself to teaching that hard-won knowledge to others. As ambassadors of Christ today, we carry this same responsibility. Without Isaiah, Jeremiah, or Daniel, generations would have been left without direction. The world still needs people willing to acquire truth and share it boldly. There is no time to wait.

Closing Prayer

Lord, raise me up as a faithful spokesman for Your truth in this generation. Give me the courage of Enoch, Noah, Nathan, and Solomon to speak boldly when others remain silent. Use me to point people toward the answers only found in You. Amen.
