"John's two disciples found Jesus and said to him, 'John the Baptist sent us to ask, "Are you the Messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?"' At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. Then he told John's disciples, 'Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. And tell him, "God blesses those who do not turn away because of me."'"
Luke 7:20-23 (NLT)Jesus' ministry drew questions from everyone, from scholars of the Law to the crowds that followed Him daily. One day John the Baptist sent two of his disciples to ask, "Are you the Messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?" Jesus did not answer with an argument. At that very moment He was healing diseases, casting out evil spirits, and restoring sight to the blind. He told them to go back and report what they had seen and heard: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the Good News is preached to the poor. The works of God confirmed the message.
The question John's disciples asked is one we must answer for ourselves: are we still waiting for a different Messiah? If Jesus is our only Savior, then we must step out and share His Good News. As Christ's ambassadors, we carry the same testimony the disciples carried back to John, what we have seen and heard of Him. The world needs Jesus and the blessings He brings. Like Esther, we have been called for such a time as this (Esther 4:14). Jesus also gave a promise: "God blesses those who do not turn away because of me" (Luke 7:23). Whether you are rising to evangelize or hearing His word today, do not turn away. Accept His tender mercies and be a faithful witness to His name.
Lord, thank You that Jesus is the Messiah and that we need no other. Give me the courage to step out and share the Good News of what I have seen and heard. Keep me from turning away, and let me be a faithful witness to Your name. Amen.
