"Now it came to pass in Iconium that they went together into the synagogue of the Jews. And so they spoke so that a great multitude, both of the Jews and of the Greeks, believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brethren. Therefore, they stayed there a long time speaking boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands."
Acts 14:1-3 (NKJV)Our media is full of advertisements. Every person and institution is promoting products and ideas to win new customers and keep the ones they have. Where, then, is the voice of Christ's kingdom and the undiluted Word of God? Too often Christians do not stand out boldly because of unfaithfulness, fear, and a failure to believe that the kingdom is the only vehicle for saving mankind. In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas spoke so effectively that a great multitude of Jews and Greeks believed. When unbelievers stirred up opposition, they stayed a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who confirmed His word with signs and wonders (Acts 14:1-3). Paul was confident because he knew the value of what he believed and lived by the principles of Christ.
What about us? Our attitudes, and the guilt Satan keeps reminding us of, often keep us from standing up for the gospel. Confidence grows from commitment and competence. When we know what we believe, commit to it, and practice it, confidence follows naturally. As Christ's ambassadors, we do not promote a theory. The principles of Christ are real-life principles with real blessings and hope. Dare to do something for Him every day, trusting the Holy Spirit to make it possible. Whether in words or in actions, practice and proclaim what Christ taught, because it is what the world needs most.
Lord, free me from fear and from the guilt that keeps me silent. Help me to know Your Word, practice it faithfully, and speak boldly about You. By Your Spirit, make me a confident and competent ambassador for Christ. Amen.
