SEASONED WITH SALT!

By: Lizmat

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (NIV) Colossians 4:6

In the face of modernization, Christians have no choice than to hold on to their basic virtues if they seek to survive in this world. Most people don’t realise that words are powerful. It can make and unmake an individual. Most of the time, we involve ourselves in just any trivial conversation and we say just anything. Today, lying has become easily acceptable, unnecessary arguments and unprofitable exchange of words with people has caught up with Christendom.

God our father wants to remind us of the fact that our failure to bridle our tongue as is stated in the good book (Bible-James 3:6) is a sure way to our own destruction. Proverbs 10: 11 says the mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of wicked. The question is: are we living as the righteousness of God here on earth? What are the kinds of words that come from our mouth? Are they life unto the world especially those found in the faith? Or are they words that curse the very existence of this world?

Surely the world may not be fair to us as Christians, but as the children of God, we are expected (no matter the situation) to bless always and not curse with our words. Let our conversations be indeed full of grace. That is to say, we must say the right words at the right time and make constructive criticisms based on love, and the fervent desire to exalt each other better than ourselves.

Let us show a higher level of respect to all the people that come our way in words and deeds. And surely we will overcome today’s world as Jesus and the Apostles did in their time. Let us remember that in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who strengthens us. Isaiah 50:4 says the sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. Isn’t this great? Yeah, it is to me.
