"Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming."(NIV) Colossians 3:5-6
The Christian life is a new life with Christ. This new life with Christ requires that we set our eyes on things in heaven that do not pass away and not on perishable earthly things. It is for this reason that Paul cautions us to put to death the sinful earthly things and walk into a new life with Christ.
The new life with Christ is SELFLESS. It doesn’t exalt itself, doesn’t consider itself but others. It is God’s will in Christ that we live this new life. If we can do so, then we need to let go off our SELFISH attitude.
Selfishness leads to greed. And the Bible says” greedy people are idolaters of the things of the world”. If we continue in our selfish pursuits of things in this world, we will lose SALVATION for our souls.
On the contrary, loosing every worldly thing and considering others’ joy and satisfaction in serving God will grant us all that we need to live the new life in Christ. Colossians 3:24—remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward and that the master you are serving is Christ.
Members of the Lords church, we are serving a faithful and covenant keeping God, so let us live the new life of selflessness and we will be rewarded.
