With or Without Lions, Trust God

"My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me,…"

Daniel 6:22 (NIV)

Imagined in Daniel's own voice, this devotional carries the weight of a life spent choosing faithfulness over comfort. Carried into captivity as a young man, Daniel loved God's Word and strove to please Him even far from his homeland (Daniel 1:8). His three friends later faced a fiery furnace rather than bow to an idol, and God rescued them completely (Daniel 3:17). When a trap was later set against Daniel himself, he faced the same choice they had: freedom without God, or faithfulness that might cost him everything. He chose faithfulness and was thrown to the lions (Daniel 6:16), and by God's divine hand, what should have been a deadly feast became an unexpected fast, and Daniel walked out unharmed, his mouth shut by an angel sent from God (Daniel 6:22).

Not everyone in Scripture experienced such a visible, immediate rescue. Hebrews 11 records many faithful believers who were not delivered in their lifetime, yet their stories did not end in defeat, because God always does what is right and the legacy of the faithful outlives even death itself (Hebrews 6:10). Whether or not deliverance comes the way we hope, the call remains the same: trust God whatever happens, and resolve to do what is right no matter the cost. It was demanding for Daniel too, but he never gave up on God (Proverbs 3:3-5; Revelation 2:10). With or without lions in your own life, remain on God's side through every difficulty. That faithfulness, seen or unseen, rewarded now or later, is never wasted.

Closing Prayer

Lord, give me the resolve of Daniel to remain faithful to You regardless of the outcome. Whether deliverance comes quickly or not at all in this life, help me to trust that You always do what is right. Keep me on Your side through every trial I face. Amen.
