Build Relationship Maps for the Great Commission

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

Jesus commissioned His disciples with clear authority and a clear task: go and make disciples of all nations. That command remains binding on every believer today, but how it gets carried out in practice often determines its effectiveness. One practical and resourceful approach is building what could be called a relationship map, a visual sense of the people God has already placed within your circle of influence, family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and everyone you encounter in daily life. Just as a map shows physical connections between places, a relationship map reveals the spiritual opportunities woven into the ordinary relationships surrounding you. The Gospel travels most naturally and effectively through relationships that are already built on trust, warmth, and genuine care.

Starting such relationships does not require grand gestures. A smile, a sincere greeting, a helping hand offered without expectation, wise counsel given freely, a listening ear, a non-judgmental attitude, these are the simple building blocks of connection that open doors for the Gospel to be shared naturally over time. People are far more receptive to truth from someone who has genuinely invested in their life than from a stranger delivering a message. As you go about your daily interactions, consider who God has already placed in your relational map, family members, neighbors, colleagues, and even casual acquaintances, and look for ways to deepen those connections with the intention of ultimately pointing them to Christ. Fulfilling the Great Commission does not always require a pulpit; sometimes it simply requires a relationship, faithfully built and lovingly maintained.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to see the people already in my life as part of Your plan to reach the world. Give me the warmth, patience, and genuine care to build meaningful relationships that open doors for Your Gospel. Use my everyday connections to bring others closer to You. Amen.
