GIVING THANKS

"Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done"(NIV) Psalm 105:1

Last Thursday night, I found myself seated behind a dining table daubed with delicious mashed potatoes, green beans, jollof rice laced with chicken gizzard, grapes, pineapple, apples, cranberry juice, and an intimidating but lip smacking plate of a full bodied oven-roasted royal turkey with accompanied garnishing. It was the beginning of Thanksgiving weekend in many parts of the world especially the United States and Canada.

Through all cultures and since the beginning of time, giving thanks or showing gratitude is understood and accepted as a morally right thing to do. Over the course of the meal, I felt the need to assess myself as I have grown to do unconsciously and I felt good to realize I hardly forget to give thanks to my fellow man where gratitude is due. It was when I considered the God we serve, the one who gives us life every morning that I felt sorry and guilty for my faults. As Christians, should we wait till a day in the year or a day in the week to give thanks to God for His many blessings?

To remember your creator is to realize that all good things in life are handcrafted gifts from God (James 1:17)…and every physical blessing, every spiritual blessing, every step, every breath (Acts 17:28). To forget God is like forgetting the keys to your car. The tank may be full of fuel, the radiator full of water, the tires full of air, but without the keys, none of those things will get you anywhere. God is key to everything that really matters; every relationship, every struggle, every decision. THE CREATOR- don’t leave home without Him!
