Your Gifts Are for Others

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as you have done unto one of the least of these brethren, you have done it unto me."

Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)

It is easy to become consumed with acquiring things that bring personal comfort and pleasure, money, possessions, entertainment, convenience, while overlooking others who genuinely need our attention, resources, and prayers. What we often forget is that the gifts and talents we have been entrusted with were never meant for personal gratification alone. Every believer has been endowed with special abilities meant to benefit not only themselves but also their family, God's kingdom, and the people around them. Seeing our talents as belonging fundamentally to God, rather than as personal possessions, changes how we manage and use them. Identifying these gifts is the first necessary step, because talents left unrecognized cannot be developed or used effectively for God's glory (Matthew 25:29).

Jesus modeled exactly this balance. Though His earthly ministry was demanding, He remained devoted to worship, prayer, and helping others as His central priorities, while still making time for rest, friendship, and fellowship. Many believers today have been given far more resources than Jesus ever possessed during His earthly life, which raises a sobering question: what have we done with everything God has entrusted to us? No gift should be dismissed as inferior or insignificant, as the servant who buried his one talent mistakenly believed (Matthew 25:24-25). Every gift, however small it may seem, exists both for our own growth and for genuine service to others. Managing our talents according to God's principles and using them faithfully to serve those around us is one of the clearest ways we can bring glory to God and change the world through simple, consistent acts of kindness.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to see every gift and talent You have given me as belonging to You, meant for the service of others rather than my own comfort alone. Show me how to identify and develop what You have entrusted to me, and give me a heart eager to use it for Your glory. Amen.
