Serve as Christ Served

"Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."

1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

Busyness has become a common excuse for neglecting Christian duty, whether in serving God or serving fellow believers. Yet Jesus Himself modeled the exact opposite priority. Though He was Master over all, He humbled Himself to wash the feet of His disciples, declaring, "I am among you as one who serves" (Luke 22:27). His example was not a one-time demonstration of humility but a lasting instruction for how every follower of His should live. He said plainly that whoever serves Him must follow Him, and wherever He is, His servant will be also (John 12:26). This means service is not optional for the believer; it is the very identity we are called into.

God has generously distributed spiritual gifts across the body of Christ so that every believer has something to offer, whether within the church or beyond it. Peter reminds us that each person should use whatever gift they have received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms (1 Peter 4:10). Serving should never be viewed as beneath us or as a lesser duty, but as a direct act of worship. Paul reinforces this in Colossians 3:23-24, urging believers to work with all their heart, as though serving the Lord Himself, since it is Christ we are ultimately serving in every act performed for others. And service does not go unnoticed. Jesus promises that whoever serves Him will be honored by the Father (John 12:26). Choose today to serve wholeheartedly with whatever gift God has entrusted to you, following the example of the One who served first.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to serve others the way Christ served His disciples, humbly and without excuse. Show me the gifts You have given me and give me a willing heart to use them faithfully. May every act of service I offer be done as though I am serving You directly. Amen.
