"Then they said to each other, 'What we're doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let's go at once and report this to the royal palace.'"
2 Kings 7:9 (NIV)Samaria was gripped by a devastating famine when the prophet Elisha declared that abundant food would arrive by the next day (2 Kings 7:1). God chose to fulfill this promise through an unlikely group of messengers, four lepers, men considered rejected, quarantined, and virtually hopeless in their society. Having nothing left to lose, they wandered into the enemy camp only to discover it had been abandoned, and stumbled upon more food, gold, and clothing than they could carry. Yet in the middle of their own personal windfall, something important stirred within them: "What we're doing is not right. This is a day of good news, and we are keeping it to ourselves" (2 Kings 7:9). They recognized that news this significant could not remain a private discovery. It had to be shared.
There is a powerful lesson here for anyone who feels disqualified from service because of their own struggles. The four lepers were not chosen because they were spiritually strong, financially secure, or emotionally stable. They were chosen precisely in their weakness and marginalization, and God used them to bring deliverance to an entire nation. Whatever burden you may currently carry, financial hardship, emotional discouragement, family pressures, health concerns, spiritual uncertainty, or private struggles, does not disqualify you from being used by God. In fact, it may position you as exactly the vessel He intends to use. Today can become someone else's day of good news because you were willing to share what God has shown or given you, regardless of your own current needs and struggles.
Lord, use me as an instrument of good news today, regardless of the burdens I currently carry. Help me to recognize that my weakness and struggles do not disqualify me from serving You. Give me the courage to share what You have shown me, just as the four lepers did. Amen.
