A Boat Becomes a Pulpit

"And He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat."

Luke 5:2-3 (NAS)

Peter was an ordinary fisherman, trained in an ordinary trade, equipped with the ordinary tools of his profession, a boat and a net. He had no reason to believe these everyday possessions would ever serve a divine purpose. Yet after a discouraging night of fruitless labor, everything changed. Peter's willingness to obey, even after failure, "we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say" (Luke 5:5), opened the door for his boat to become something far greater than a fishing vessel. Jesus stepped into it and used it as a pulpit, teaching the crowds gathered along the shore. That same boat then became the platform for a miracle, an overwhelming catch of fish so great the nets began to tear (Luke 5:4-6). What Peter had organized simply to earn a living, God repurposed entirely for kingdom use.

Wherever you find yourself today, whatever job, skill, resource, or circumstance surrounds your life, may not be your preferred situation, but it is not without divine purpose. The environment you are in and the people God has placed around you are not accidental. Who you are and what you already possess can be transformed into tools for God's mission, just as Peter's boat became far more than he ever imagined. The question is simply whether you are willing to make what you have available to Him. What ordinary tool are you holding today, your time, your skills, your resources, your platform, that God could use for extraordinary purpose? Offer it to Him, as Peter did, and watch Him use it beyond anything you could have planned for yourself.

Closing Prayer

Lord, take what I already have and use it for Your purposes, just as You used Peter's boat. Help me to see my ordinary skills, resources, and circumstances as tools available for Your mission. Give me the willingness to offer them to You without hesitation. Amen.
