Love Beyond Comparison

"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."

1 John 4:9-10 (NIV)

A mother's love is one of the most powerful, sacrificial loves we experience in this life, formed even before a child takes their first breath, and celebrated every year across the world in recognition of its depth. Yet as beautiful as that love is, it cannot be compared to the love of God. Humanity alone bears God's image, a distinction that reveals how deeply valued and cherished we are to our Creator. If mothers, who themselves bear that same image, can love their children so unconditionally, how much greater must be the love of the One who first placed that capacity for love within them? John reminds us that God's love was demonstrated in the most costly way imaginable: He sent His only Son so that we might live, an atoning sacrifice given not because we loved Him first, but because He loved us while we were still undeserving (1 John 4:9-10).

Every morning we wake up, every breath of good health, every family member placed in our lives, mother, father, siblings, spouse, children, are gifts we did not earn and had no say in receiving. These are quiet, daily expressions of God's love that we often take for granted precisely because they are so consistent. Just as we celebrate and honor the people who love us well, let us take time regularly to celebrate and worship the God whose love surpasses every human love combined. Reflect today on the simple, undeserved gifts in your life, and let gratitude for them draw your heart back to the immeasurable love of the One who gave everything, His own Son, so that you could truly live.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for a love that surpasses every earthly love I have ever known, demonstrated through the gift of Your Son. Help me to see Your daily provisions, my breath, my health, my family, as constant reminders of that love. Fill my heart with gratitude and lead me to worship You continually. Amen.
