Is God the Head of Your Home?

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."

Isaiah 5:20 (NIV)

God looked at everything He made and declared it good, and that includes the sacred institution of marriage and family. Yet today, what God designed as a beautiful lifelong covenant between a man and a woman is increasingly being redefined, undermined, and abandoned. Isaiah's warning is sobering: woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who exchange light for darkness. When society redefines marriage away from God's original design in Genesis 2:23-24, it does not improve on it; it diminishes it. Broken families, single parenting, and the pain of fractured homes are not the result of God's design failing but of humanity setting that design aside. When God is removed as the head of the home, the family loses its compass, its purpose, and its power to hold together through the inevitable frictions and challenges that every household faces.

But when God is truly at the center, everything changes. Love, compassion, faithfulness, and humility flourish when all partners are submitted to the Spirit of God rather than their own preferences and pride. Challenges will still arise, but a home anchored in prayer and godly commitment has the tools to overcome them. The Christian home is meant to be a visible extension of the Church, a place where the world can look in and see God at work in real relationships. Apart from the Church, the next place a searching soul should be able to encounter God is in a Christian home. The question worth sitting with today is this: is the world seeing God in yours?

Closing Prayer

Lord, be the head of my home in every true sense. Where love has grown cold, rekindle it. Where pride has built walls, break them down. Fill my home with Your peace, Your prayer, and Your presence, so that everyone who enters encounters You. Amen.
