Giver instead of getter
"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."(NIV) 1 Timothy 6:18
Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 6:18-19
Too many times, we have been selfish. We have tried to receive instead of give. We forget how important it is to be of service to others. Our desire to feel and look good in the midst of our friends has left us more selfish than we can possibly imagine. Some years ago, a man (Enoch) ministered to another man (James). After several years, they met at the airport and the following conversation transpired.
Enoch: Hello, you look familiar. Have we met before?
James: Hi! Enoch, how are you? Enoch: Am sorry, help me recollect? James: It is James, Enoch. You preached to me some time ago and I believed and got baptized.
Enoch: Oh yeah! James, how are you and what are you doing here? James: My wife and I are distributing Christian tracts to people at the airport. We have been doing this for some time now.
Enoch: That is wonderful!
James: You know, you found me and you GAVE me something which changed my life. I met this wonderful woman who has been of great support to me because of the faith we have in common. It was easy for us to come to a decision not to be selfish of the GOODNEWS but to spread it just like the way you did and we have been at it before and after our marriage.
Enoch: That is great. God bless you.
James: The commission of our Lord Jesus to spread his message was unto all mankind and we feel privileged to be workmen on his vineyard. God bless you too and we hope to meet another time. Goodbye
Enoch: Goodbye
And there departed in oppose directions. James left happier than ever and thanked God for giving Him to opportunity. He murmured these words; “I am glad I am now a “GIVER”, instead of a “GETTER”.
Beloved brethren, what kind of need are we trying to meet; job, family, marriage, business etc. Whatever it is that we are aiming to achieve, let’s not strive to be a GO-GETTER, be a GO-GIVER.
Let’s mould our lives giving to others. Let’s give to others, serve others, help others and render services to others and to God. He will reward our efforts far above our imagination. THAT IS A SELFLESS WAY TO LIVE.
