"If the Lord had not been on our side let Israel say. If the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us; the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away." (NIV) Psalm 124:1-5
As I reflect on the goodness of God this year and the years that have gone by, the word that leaps up in my mind is WOW! I am simply overwhelmed by the goodness of God. I have a lot to be grateful for and as I course through the memoir of my mind I simply cannot trace my starting point. All I can do is to worship Him:
Praise the Lord
Lift Him higher
Praise Him now and forever
If it hadn’t been for the Lord on our side
Where will you and I be?
Lets make a joyful noise
And sing unto the Most High God, our Lord
During prayer meetings at church this year, one of the constant requests by brethren for intercession was about healing. A lot of people at my local congregation and at other congregations have seriously battled with ill health. I personally know of a woman in her fifties whose situation is pathetic. She has been infested with some malignant tumour. She cannot recline on a seat and sit ramrod straight like normal folks can do. She has to keep standing or lie prostrate. As my family and I visited her, she stood agonized, wincing from the pain. You could really feel a fellow human being with flesh and blood enduring such unbearable pain. Come to think of it, this woman has suffered this ill health close to three years, after the demise of her spouse. As I think about the fact that it could have been me.
As I think about the fact that throughout the year, the only sickness I can probably ‘complain’ of is some mild migraines and some ‘not so serious’ stomach upsets, all I can say is thank you Lord! I guess you share a similar concern as me. However, if your situation is worse than mine think about the fact that it could have been worst. God has dealt well with us, so let us gladly say Thank you Lord!
