What does God say i am?

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (NKJV) 1 Peter 2:9

Identity is one of the greatest struggles of human life. Many define themselves by career, culture, social status, or personal failures. Yet for the Christian, the true question is not, “Who do I say I am?” but “What does God say I am?” Until we align our lives with His view of us, we will always chase shadows of worth that cannot last.

The apostle Peter declares, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). God identifies us not by what we were, but by what His grace has made us. To Him, we are chosen, consecrated, and commissioned for His glory.

When we embrace God’s definition, our perspective changes. No longer are we slaves to sin, for He calls us free (Romans 6:18). We are not abandoned, for He calls us His children (1 John 3:1). We are not worthless, for Christ purchased us with His own blood (Acts 20:28). Each of these truths should shape how we live, speak, and relate to others.

The implications are profound. If God says we are His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19), we must pursue holiness. If He calls us ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), we must represent His kingdom faithfully. Our task is to bring our lives into harmony with His word, so that our conduct reflects the identity He has declared.

Let us awaken to this reality: the truest measure of our worth is not in what the world says, but in what God says we are. Amen!
