Beyond the scope of God

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’” (NKJV) Isaiah 46:9–10

In academic works, one often reads the phrase, “This is beyond the scope of this study.” It signals a limitation in human knowledge or ability. Sadly, some believers unconsciously apply this concept to God, as though certain matters of life fall outside His reach or capacity. Yet the testimony of Scripture declares otherwise. Nothing is beyond the scope of God.

The psalmist reminds us, “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5). What is hidden from man is fully known to Him. While human wisdom falters, God sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). He may allow storms to rage longer than we expect, He may keep us waiting for answers, or He may conceal mysteries we long to understand. Yet none of these situations points to limitation in God. Instead, they call us to trust His perfect timing and sovereign will.

When the disciples feared the storm on the Sea of Galilee, they cried, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38). To them, the situation felt beyond hope. Yet with one command, the Lord stilled the winds and waves, proving that creation itself is within His scope of authority. What they perceived as abandonment was actually a test of faith.

We too face trials that tempt us to think God has overlooked us. In illness, financial struggle, or “unanswered prayer”, we may whisper in our hearts, “Perhaps this is beyond God’s concern.” But Scripture reassures us: “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Let us reject the lie that anything lies beyond God’s scope. Instead, let us walk with full confidence that His will is perfect, His wisdom unsearchable, and His care unfailing. The God who upholds the universe holds every detail of our lives. Amen.
