Standing still

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

"And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more, forever.’" (NKJV) Exodus 14:13

In the book "Faith That Goes the Distance", the author addresses the need to remain calm in the face of trouble. Rather than giving in to panic, we are encouraged to trust in God’s power and provision. Through a compelling illustration of Moses, the Israelites, and the miraculous workings of God, we are reminded that faith, not fear, should guide our steps.

The author writes:

"Imagine Moses standing before the Red Sea. If the people crossed the Red Sea in one night, they couldn't go in a narrow line. With one to three million people, the line would've been eight hundred miles long and taken thirty-five days and nights to cross. The dry land the people walked on had to be three miles wide for them to get through."

He continues:

"According to the quartermaster general of the army, Moses needed 15,000 tons of food each day to feed the people. That's two freight trains, each a mile long. Not to mention that they needed 4,000 tons of firewood to cook food each day (and firewood can't be easy to find in a desert). They also needed water. Eleven million gallons a day to drink and wash a few dishes. That equals a freight train, with tank cars, 1,800 miles long. Each time the Israelites camped, the campground’s size was two-thirds the size of Rhode Island, a total of 750 square miles. Do you think Moses had this all figured out when he made the choice of faith? Often God calls us to tasks we cannot do without him. Moses learned that God’s power begins where our power ends!" Moses did not have all the answers when he led the Israelites out of Egypt, but he had faith. Just as God parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-22), provided manna from heaven (Exodus 16:4), and made water flow from a rock (Exodus 17:6), He will supply our needs as we pray, trust, and stay on track.
