Ups and downs, but the Lord is faithful
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (NKJV) Lamentations 3:22-23
Life is full of highs and lows, but one truth remains—God is faithful. Even His greatest servants experienced both victory and despair, yet His Word never failed them.
Elijah, after calling down fire from heaven, saw a mighty victory over false prophets. But soon after, fear and exhaustion overwhelmed him, and he fled into the wilderness, wishing to die. Yet, in his lowest moment, God met him—not with rebuke, but with provision, rest, and a gentle whisper of reassurance (1 Kings 19). His Word sustained Elijah, reminding him that the mission was not over.
On the other hand, the disciples of Jesus saw incredible success when sent out to preach, heal, and cast out demons. They returned rejoicing, amazed at the authority given to them. Yet Jesus reminded them not to rejoice in their power but in their secure place in God’s kingdom (Luke 10:17-20). The joy of serving God is not in temporary victories but in the unshakable foundation of His Word.
Whether in despair like Elijah or in triumph like the disciples, God’s Word upholds us. His promises stand firm through every season. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. When life brings uncertainty, His truth remains our anchor.
No matter where you are today—on the mountaintop or in the valley—God’s faithfulness never wavers. Trust Him, rely on His Word, and move forward. He’s got your back.
