The patriarchs of today

Written by Douglas Agyapong.

Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs. (NIV) Acts 7:8

The bible is usually divided into 3 major dispensations of methods utilized by God to communicate to man; the Patriarchal (Heb. 1:1-2), Mosaical/Law (Ex. 19,20) and Christian (Acts 2, Acts 3:22-23) dispensations...read more. The first is the patriarchal dispensation starred by Adam, the first human; Cain; Noah; Abraham and the like (Genesis 2:4-3:24, Acts 7:8). These were fathers of their families and they were the media through which God communicated to man. In the story of Noah (Genesis 5:32-10:10), we see God tells the whole world of an imminent annihilating rainfall through Noah. Eventually, he alone, with his family, got saved due to their obedience.

In our current times, we notice that there are some men of God who busy themselves too much with the work of the ministry to the extent of not spending enough time with their families at home. Consequently, their children adopt lifestyles which render them unworthy to be called children of God's ministers. This gives people the chance to often say: "Pastors' children are the worst".  Many other parents busy themselves so much with their jobs at the expense of the morality of their wards.

Today, we are learning that one of the first purposes of a husband (or wife if husband is absent) is to be a patriarch of the home. This urges the respective parent to try as much as possible to perform this primary job and ministry for the welfare of the family. It may be challenging at times, but if we pray for strength from God, we will always be able to work towards the welfare of our families first before any other duties or responsibilities. May God help us, Amen!
