Who is in Your Boat?

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” NKJV (Mark 4:38-39)

From the beginning of the year like this, people set many expectations they hope to accomplish. Interestingly, we set aspirations with God far away from the top of the list. We are in the boat of life with so much luggage and we still in the business of adding more load to our possessions.

We must understand that it’s not what’s in your boat that matters, but who’s in your boat that makes the difference. The Apostles had the privilege of having the Master Jesus in their boat when they were travelling on the sea. The storms of difficulties will surely come when travelling on the sea of life and we must look for help when it comes. When Jesus is in your boat, He is everything you need. He saved the Apostles and will save you in the years ahead.

All Christians on the journey of life, have Jesus in their boat. Christians must be obedient to Christ and not panic when hit by the storms of life. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).

If you are not a Christian, its not too late once you are alive, give yourself to God and be part of his kingdom (Church) to have Christ in your boat too. We need to realize that storms will come at unimaginable times and that doesn’t mean God is not caring. However, if you have Jesus in your boat, you can have peace in those storms. The storm of life may be health challenges, relationship, financial, emotional, but whatever your storm, don’t forget Jesus is in the boat with you.

Jesus is the prince of peace and even the wind obeys him; "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:40-41). Call upon Jesus in your boat when challenges come, he is closer and more alert than you think.
