More than a mother’s love

"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." (NIV) 1 John 4:9-10

Many of us are so fond of our mothers not because they are just our mothers but because of the unconditional love, they showered on us as children and even as adults, they still do. It is not surprising that the world celebrates mothers in a grand style every year. Many argue that the love that exists between mothers and children develops from the fact that mothers carry children in their womb so they naturally bond with the children before they are even born.

Though a mother’s love is so special, it cannot be compared to the love of our God. Humans are the only creatures of God that bear His image - we must be so special to Him to make us His image-bearers. If mothers are also God’s image-bearers and the love they show us is overwhelming, how much more will the love of the one who created mothers be; certainly, no amount of words can explain.

Let us remind ourselves of some of the love that God shows. The gift of life every morning, good health, a mother, a father, siblings, a spouse, and children. These are a few of the gifts we get without necessarily having a say in. With these gifts, the Lord showers His love towards us. Reflect on the simple things the Lord provides without you having a say in and let that constantly remind you of His love towards you. Celebrate (worship) Him regularly just as we celebrate people who love us even though their love cannot be compared to the love of our Lord. Fill your heart with gladness and continue to appreciate the love He bestows every single day of your life. God bless you.
