The Lord Jesus, light for our darkness
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”." (NIV) Luke 8:12
"Those who claim to be in the light but hate a fellow believer are still in the darkness. Those who love their fellow believers live in the light and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But those who hate a fellow believer are in the darkness and walk around in the darkness; they do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them." (NIV) 1 John 2:9 –11
Light enables you to behold realities around you so you can make the right decisions, for example, it enables you to know there is a wall in front of you, and so you do not walk into it and bang your head. In other words, light shows you the right way to go so as to avoid injury, death or any other disaster. Light enables you to put everything in the right place for positive outcomes- can you imagine cooking in the dark? What about washing or writing in the dark? For human beings, light is necessary for normal life and happiness. Virtually, nothing good happens in the dark.
When sin entered the world, it resulted in great darkness. Not understanding realities, man took bad decisions and engaged in harmful behaviours, hatred, wars, selfishness, idol worship and other deeds of darkness. These works of darkness resulted and continue to result in much distress, suffering and fear of the unknown, especially fear of death. At the right time, God sent the Lord Jesus as a light for the world. He came to show us the realities of life and the right way to live. He teaches us the right decisions to take under all circumstances. The right decisions bring positive results.
If we live according to the light of Jesus we become safe from all kinds of harm, physical and spiritual. With Jesus as the light of our lives, we have peace and the hope of eternal life.
Let us quit living by the standards of this dark world, which ends in disaster and follow the teachings and commandments of Jesus, the light of the world.
