What and Who Are We Bowing To?

Written by Worlanyo & Emelia Darko Adzimah.

“and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (NIV) Daniel 3:14-18

In Daniel 3:1-7, 14-18, we read about an interesting story of three young men who were fearless and ready to defend their faith in the Almighty God at all cost. The story tells us of a wicked king named King Nebuchadnezzar who made a huge golden image and commanded everyone in his kingdom to bow to his image, irrespective of their beliefs and the god(s) they serve. These young men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were captives from Judah and their country (Israel) at the time were the only nation that worshipped the true and Living God. They knew the King’s command was against the Laws of God so defied it. They were summoned before the King and given one more chance to deny their God in order to escape punishment by death in a blazing furnace. That is what is captured in our Scripture reading. The young men bluntly told the King they will never bow to his image which made the King very furious. He commanded for the furnace to be heated seven times hotter and the young men were thrown into it. But the Living God, we serve, rescued them to the astonishment of the King and all present. The King, out of reverence for God and the confidence Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had to defy his orders, made a decree that no one should say anything evil about God and promoted these three loyal servants of God.

This story teaches us priceless lessons of being bold to speak the truth, even when painful death stares us right in the face. Our goal is not to miss heaven by guarding our tongues to please mankind. It is my prayer that we stand for God no matter what for He is with us in all circumstances. He does great and mighty things we can never fathom to happen! Elohim lives!

How sweet it is to hear God magnified because He chose you and you did not disappoint! God bless and guide you always!!!
