"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (NIV) John 8:32

Did you miss What is Truth? (Part III)

The Psalmist stated, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, & a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105). God’s Word & only His Word will lead us to heaven. The real question isn’t whether or not God’s Word is truth for it is most certainly! The real question is will people believe & accept it! Jesus said, “Heaven & earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35). Truth is exactly what God says it to be. Adding to it or taking away from it will only incur the wrath of God in the final analysis! Why cannot mankind accept this immutable fact instead of trying to change it only boggles the mind? The sad fact of the matter is that the minority of people will accept & obey it while the vast majority will simply reject it! (Matthew 7:13, 14). They think that they can choose another entrance into heaven where there is no other one. (Acts 4:12).

In John 4:24, Jesus told the woman at the well, “God is Spirit & they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit & in Truth.” Will everyone have this mindset? Let Jesus answer this important question for us: “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of My Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And in Thy name cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from Me ye that work iniquity (sin).” (Matthew 7:21-23). These were religious people to whom Jesus was addressing. They thought they were pleasing the Lord by worshiping Him any way they chose! Does it matter what we believe & practice in matters of religion? You can be rest assured that it matters to God! Anything less than what is authorized in heaven will be discarded, no matter how sincere people may be.

Why is it necessary for anyone to add or subtract from God’s Word of Truth? It just doesn’t make good sense, beloved. Peter said, “According to His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life & godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory & virtue; … (II Peter 1:3). The Scriptures didn’t come about through the minds of mortal men, but through inspiration of God. (II Timothy 3:16, 17; II Peter 1:19-21). This is why the Bible is abundantly clear in instructing us to “buy the truth & sell it not.” (Proverbs 23:23). Every individual with strong desire to obey God, wants to know “What is Truth?” Why? Because it matters where they want to spend eternity. God isn’t willing for anyone to perish. (II Peter 3:9). Please give considerable thought to this devotional series, "What is Truth?".
