"My son if sinners entice you, do not consent” (NKJV) Proverbs 1:10

In these contemporary times, one group of people we often overlook as Christians and consequently bond freely with are individuals who entice us to sin. There are several kinds of people belonging to this category, including family, friends and even strangers.

We make reference to “hate the sin but love the sinner" quip which eventually preys us to a host of sins without even realizing them. As imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1), we are in good standing as His dear children by shunning all forms of evil company to reap the untold blessings already promised (Psalms 1:1-3).

Similarly, God advised the Israelites not to associate with the nations that surrounded them lest they are led into idolatry (Numbers 25:17-18). And to the Lord’s church, further, admonishment has been provided regarding the right attitude to put up when in contact with an immoral brother/sister. We are to disassociate ourselves from them (1Corinthians 5:9-12; 2Corinthians 6:14-18; 2Thessalonians 3:6) after having pursued every workable means. And even in such painful happening, our deep love and prayer must not be withheld (1John 5:16-17).

It is, therefore, imperative that we heed the Word of God for the edification of all. I'm not saying we should not make friends or live passive lives, far from that- for we need each other one way or the other, as brethren, family, friends, or even antagonists. But let us be very circumspect in our friendships redeeming the evil times (Ephesians 5:16).

Simply put, we must not succumb to any enticement no matter the appeal, for that, leads to sin (James 1:14-15) knowing that bad company indeed corrupt good character (1Corinthians 15:33).

May we be watchful against every appearance of evil (1Thessalonians 5:22) as we wait for the coming of the Lord Jesus. Stay blessed.
