“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else and not your own lips. "(NIV) Proverbs 27:2
Bible reading: Proverb 27: 1-2
How many times haven’t we tried to praise ourselves or give to credit to ourselves for the things we did for the Lord. We forget the person who gave us the strength to do the very things we boast of. We succumb to the formalities of the world by not acknowledging Him publicly for the fear of what others will say but when we get to our closest we say “thank you Lord” with our lowly voice.
Today the word of God has come to us as a reminder of the very important thing that makes us productive as a Christian. Our ability to acknowledge God and trust God in all things produces results in our lives and serves as a blessing or an enlightment to others. In Proverbs 27:1, the word of God says we should not boast about tomorrow, for we do not know what a day has for us. Many of us Christians think that when we sleep and wake up the next day, it’s by sheer chance and we merit the day because of our deeds. And as such we praise ourselves as if we deserve to live that day. Whenever we do that we lose the power of God which makes us effective in the things we do for Him and others.
We may be doing things that are appreciated by men but any boastful nature and self-aggrandizement will block our chances of getting honour and power from God which we need to increase the impact we will have on others for the good things we are doing. In Psalms 44: 6-8, David, a man after God’s heart said; “I don’t trust in my own bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever”. David knew the secret to unlocking the power of God in him. He acknowledged the power of God in all that he did. He boasted in the strength of God and that made David productive and very effective both as a young adult and as a king.
We least forget that we haven’t done anything for God that merits His Grace. If we ever want to boast, it has to be in the things God has done through us. Paul, the last but very productive and effective of all the apostles knew this secret as well. By the power of God, he was able reached out to more people with the message of peace than any of the apostles. Do we really want to be productive? Then roast your personal boast.
