The messenger was not selfish
"The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains."(NIV) Philippians 1:17
As Christians, we have been commissioned to preach God’s word to all humanity. As humans, our problem with the above statement is; we tend to think we are incapable of delivering God’s word to the world. We forget that we are unique in every way and our means of decimating His word will vary from one person to the other. The beauty of this is God is not interested in the means we use - road, air, TV, radio, personal evangelism etc. He is however interested in the fact that the message is preached. He is also concern with the fact that it is done in the right way so that we may not be OBSTACLES to our brethren in Christ, who are doing the same work: PREACHING.
We must not be SELFISH in the resources we have to preach God’s word. Others are preaching not out of Love for God, but out of lust for money and material possessions. Christ did the Fathers wish from a cheerful heart and with love, putting the interest of others above His.The apostle Paul and the rest followed suit and by their hardwork and selflessness, they bruised their bodies, forsook their comfort in order to spread the GOODNEWS to all nations. We are admonished in 1 Corinthians 11:1 to imitate Paul as he imitated Christ.
Today, we as Christians must go and preach the gospel of Christ with the same attitude of Christ (Phil 2:5- you must have the same attitude as Christ Jesus had). We must not preach based on the desires of the STOMACH but we must do it because we love Christ and care about His Flock.
Christ whom we preach about is not selfish but SELFLESS.
