Look for Him whilst He is near

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“…14 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. 16 Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birth right as the firstborn son for a single meal. 17 You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears”.(NLT) Hebrews 12:12-17

As the day passes and our lives on earth fade away, we must begin to think as serious children of God. We must behave like the five wise virgins Jesus talked about, who had spare oil for their lamps on their journey.

Eternity is a serious issue that all Christians must consider with all seriousness and ponder over it daily. Have we wondered where we will spend eternity? I am sure all of us will say heaven. Yeah, that’s right! But Eternity in heaven comes with a price, personal responsibility to oneself and to God.

To ourselves we ought to live lives that are holy and peaceful as we look after each other in the Lord. To God, we owe to him the surety of our salvation. This is because He has put in place all that pertain to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

We need to ensure that what God has done for us through Christ does not go in vain. For if we do, on that day when He comes to his glory to judge, there will be gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42, Luke 13:28). There will be no room for repentance. It will be late just like for Esau, who sold his birth right for mere food.

Let us not sell our salvation to the devil in exchange of worldly, temporary pleasures which the bible says is fading away (1 John 2:17). Let us instead run the race till we see God’s face, “for those who are not holy will not see the Lord” (Hebrews 12: 14b).

Beloved lets seek the Lord now whilst He is still near before the day when there will be no repentance given.
