What can I do to be saved?

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

"With many other words he warned them; and pleaded with them “save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized and about three thousand were added to their number that day." (NIV) Acts 2:40-41

Acts chapter two talks about how the church of Christ began. After Christ was taken up to heaven, the apostles were left with the rash to increase the number of disciple to be added to the church. As promised, on the day of Pentecost, the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit and each spoke in different tongues though they were Galileans. The crowd (from different nations and who speak different languages) came together in bewilderment because each one understood the apostles in their individual languages declaring the wonders of God.

Then Peter stood up with the eleven apostles, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: he told the crowd they were not drunk (the crowd thought they were because they spoke to the understanding of everybody though they spoke in the Galilean language) and that a prophesy is being fulfilled through them. He said, Christ who was crucified though He did nothing wrong has risen and in heaven. When the people heard that they played a role in crucifying Christ and the fact that He has risen, they were cut to the heart and asked, “what shall we do?” Peter replied them saying, “repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). And after they were baptized, they devoted themselves to the apostles teachings (Acts 2:42-47).

Before Christ left the apostles to heaven, He gave them the great commission; He asked them to go and make disciples of all nation, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything He has commanded them (Matthew 28:19-20).

Our part to play in order to be saved is first to hear the word, just like the crowd, then we repent and allow ourselves to be baptized then continue in the teachings of Christ till His second coming. Any other path was never mentioned in the bible so do not be deceived! (Matthew 7:21-23). God bless you.
