Sufficient grace
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (NIV) 2 Corinthians 12:9
We live in a world that praises strength, self-sufficiency, and control. Weakness, on the other hand, often feels like failure-something to hide, fix, or push through. But God sees things differently. When the Apostle Paul pleaded with God to take away a “thorn in the flesh,” God didn’t remove it. Instead, He gave Paul a greater gift: grace. God has carefully created us such that we are not without blemish or imperfections, but He desires for us to run to Him, lean on Him for matters that so beset or weighs us.
God’s grace is not just enough-it’s more than enough. And it's in our weakness, not our strength, that His power shines most brightly. Why? Because when we’re weak, we stop relying on our own strength. We become vessels that can be filled with His strength.
Paul didn’t just accept his weakness-he boasted in it. He understood that his limitations were the very stage upon which Christ’s power could be displayed. In admitting our struggles, we open the door for God to work in and through us in ways we never imagined.
What weakness are you facing today? Is it physical, emotional, or spiritual? Instead of hiding it or pretending it's not there, invite God into it. Ask Him to show you how His grace is sufficient. Let your weakness become a place of encounter-where His power rests on you.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me. Help me not to be ashamed of my weakness but to see it as an opportunity for Your power to be made perfect. Teach me to lean on You and to boast gladly in what the world sees as failure-because that's where You do Your best work. Amen.
