The Christian Mindset – Mind for God
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (NIV) Philippians 2:5
In this devotional and subsequent ones in this series “The Christian Mindset”, we are going to take a trip through the New Testament and learn about the Christian mindset and how we can develop such a mindset.
Mind for God
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (NIV) Mark 12:30.
To love God with our mind, we are supposed to do this: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them” (NIV) 1 John 2:15.
What are the things in the world that men choose to love instead of God? Wealth (Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13) and themselves (2 Timothy 3:2).
What does our love for the world mean? Our love for the world means enmity against God (James 4:4).
How then do we become friends of God? We are encouraged not to conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2).
As Christians we ought to put off our old selves, which are being corrupted by deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of our minds; and to put on the new selves, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24).
