“We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works"(NIV) Ephesians 2:10
Bible reading: Ephesians 2: 1-10
Once, we were dead in our transgressions and sins, following the ways of this world. But a miraculous work was done on our behalf through the sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ. By His death on the cross, He extended to us the incomparable riches of His grace. In return, He calls us to bear fruit in His name. When He comes again, will we be able to give a good account of what we’ve done with this trust He has placed in us?
Sadly, many of us are not being productive in the Lord’s vineyard. Some remain idle, while others, though active, boast in their good works and look down on others. They resemble the Pharisee in Luke 18:9-14, who proudly declared, “God, I thank you that I am not like other people - robbers, evildoers, adulterers - or even like this tax collector.” But God is not pleased with idle souls or boastful workers in His field. Instead, He seeks self-sacrificing and humble servants, for He bought us at a great price.
It’s important to remember that we are created by God for good works, not saved by them. Salvation is a gift of grace, not a result of our deeds. Our pride in our works cannot earn us heaven. Rather, when we recognize that we are saved solely by grace, we will naturally see the need to do good. Doing good is the purpose of our calling.
When we embrace this truth and seek to do good to all - especially to those in the household of faith - we grow into effective and fruitful Christians. Let us remember always: we are saved, not by our good works, but for good works.
God loves us so much that He chose to save us. It is by grace, not merit. We show our love for Him by living lives of goodness, humility, and service.
