The Power of God’s word
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (NIV) James 1: 21-22
God’s word is indeed powerful, the more reason why we can’t just listen and do nothing about it. It revives dead tissues and gives life to dead ones. In Jeremiah 31:33, God talked about a new covenant with the Israelites’, which he will write on their hearts. This covenant has to do with his words which he will write in their hearts. Today through Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross, we gentiles’ who were undeserving of this grace have access to this promise (Hebrews 10:15-23).
So, therefore, if we will make the effort to seek God by listening to his word and acting accordingly, we too can be sure to experience God’s power in our lives. God’s word is Christ. In Colossians 2:9, the bible affirms that “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body”.
Hebrews 4:12 expands on what God’s word can do. “For the word of God is alive and active…it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”. So, whatever we are holding onto which is difficult to let go of, God’s word can help us get rid of it.
I may not know what may be holding you back from worshipping God or preventing you from completely trusting God. But there is one thing I am so sure of, that if we will get rid of all the filth and evil in our lives, and humbly accept the word that God has planted in our hearts then we will experience its power to save our souls.
We should not just listen to God’s word and accept it. We must do what it says. Otherwise, we are only deceiving ourselves.
