Fear not

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."(NKJV) Isaiah 41:10

We are all having something we are afraid of in this life. Somethings can torment us so terribly that, we become dead when we meet them. The cause may be real or imaginary, physical or spiritual. Fear reduces our performance and empowers the enemy.

Abraham was afraid of losing his wife Sarah, so he lied he was the brother. Apostle Peter was so afraid of being captured with Jesus that he swore and cursed before a house girl (Luke 22:54-57). Apostle Peter was scared of drowning when he walked on the sea with Jesus. The Apostles were scared of drowning in the sea when Jesus was sleeping among them in the boat. The Israelites were scared of dying in the wilderness. King Saul was scared of losing a battle that he performed a sacrifice he was not permitted to do. Mostly, students are scared of examinations whenever we meet them.

What are we to do when fear comes? First, we must admit that we are afraid of certain things. We must face our fears and decide to turn things around in a positive way. We must face certain challenges if we must succeed in life. Jesus faced death to become a saviour. God was aware when Jesus was being arrested and crucified but, in the end, Jesus became King of Kings and Lord of ALL.

Remember who you are as a child of God with all the powers and favours from above. Remember where you came from. God was walking with the Israelites and had won complex battles for them, but they forgot all these close to the red sea. You have faced many challenges that were more terrifying than now, God saw you through, that’s why you are here. Trust in the same old God who has been helping us through all the hurdles of life and pray because it works. Remember Jonah in the belly of the fish.

There are positive outcomes after confronting and overcoming our fears. Peter who could not stand before a house girl was able to challenge the high Priests in Acts 4. Your fears can be turned around into your strength only if you accept them, trust God, and challenge yourself to see them differently. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
