Do we know the God we serve?

“Moses said to God, suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, what is His name? Then what shall I tell them? God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: “I AM has sent me to you.” (NIV) Exodus 3:13-14

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (NIV) Revelation 1:8

It is very easy as a Christian to recognize that God is with you when all are going according to your plans. When life is “perfect”, we definitely see the hand of God at work in our lives. However, when life seems to be tossing us in all unpleasant directions, do we still see the hand of God at work in our lives?

A story is told of a man who once lived and everyone was envious of his demeanour. When everyone in the village was anxious about one thing or the other, he always appeared calm, at peace and wearing a pleasant smile always. People thought he was the cause of their suffering and they believed that he benefited from the suffering of the people in the village. The youth of the village stormed his home one day to accuse him and possibly harm him. They got to his home only to realize that the state they found him in was worse than theirs. They were amazed so they inquired about how he still remained calm even though he was not as comfortable as he appeared. He simply answered that he forwarded his problems to a competent fellow to handle so there is no need to keep being anxious.

Today, I entreat you to forward all your burdens to God for He is capable of dealing with it. As you do so, there is no need to still feel in control of those burdens. Let them go and express optimism in your appearance, in your behaviour and in your heart that our competent God is dealing with them and will deal with them at the right time. God, increase our faith.
