Abusing God's Grace

Written by Ruth Afua Agyeibea Arthur.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" (KJV)Romans 6:1-3

Christianity is saddled with many questions such as; why did an all knowing God watch on while the serpent deceived Eve ? How can a loving God send people to hell? These questions asked by unbelievers have the tendency to throw Christians off gear or begin to doubt their faith. Humans often mistakenly assume that since God is all loving, He is not in a position to punish wrongdoings whatsoever. As a matter of fact, God's love and mercy are usually taken for granted.

It is surprising how we humans do not hesitate to correct our offsprings yet question God when He does same. The above verse from Paul came to caution mankind not to take advantage of God's attributes. Through out our journey in life, God presents us with opportunities. Having given us His word, He gives us the free will to choose and make decisions for ourselves without coercion. He trust that we would fall on Him to make the right judgements . When man decides to throw caution to the wind, God steps in and shapes us.

We therefore cannot blame God for correcting us when we falter; after all that is what loving parents do. We have all seen in the Bible the devastating effects of the fury of God, therefore we should guard against it. We should rather allow the Holy Spirit to direct our steps and desist from infuriating God .
