Godliness is a gain

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain." (NIV) 1Tim. 6:6

God in his infinite wisdom created humanity with so many capabilities but there are other things beyond the understanding of the mortal mind. One of such things is how God decides to share resources to different parts of the earth and to individuals. Adam, the first man created was so rich because all physical resources were in his care.

God created so many resources man is still searching for since creation. All the minerals we value so much like diamond, gold and others were in the soil from creation. The introduction of money as a medium of exchange has changed the world’s attitude towards wealth. Now, everybody wants to be rich. Riches are relative because our expectations of wealth are not the same. What you want as wealth is a peanut to another.

Because man keeps seeing many physical things that fascinate our bodies, we keep expecting more. Man never gets satisfied with physical things. Knowledge, money, cars, houses, phones, computers and other material things never satisfy a man and cannot guarantee you peace. People with loads of material wealth also commit suicide why? Knowing God and being in His kingdom is the best thing you should aspire to have.

All the material things will pass away. Knowledge becomes obsolete with time, machines become out of use by the introduction of newer versions. New models of other items keep flooding the market daily. Why are you dying and worried about this passing items? Having all these physical things are pleasant to the body but can also distract your soul from getting close to God. Fire can take away material things so as thieves in a short space of time.

There is one thing that is best and that no one can take it from you and that is taking God as your portion in life and leaving a godly life (Lk. 10:42). That will guarantee you of meaningful and complete life and eternal salvation is also assured in Christ for you. Be eager for non-perishable gifts in God than the perishables in the world. What will be your profit if you gain the whole physical world and lose your soul (Mark 8:36)? Be interested in the source of wealth (God) but not the resources he has created. Amen
