Beware!

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings." (NIV) 1Peter 5:8-9

It is becoming more difficult for humanity to accept to be part and serve in God’s Kingdom. Some who have experienced the Christian faith are struggling to keep the faith because of the strong tidal waves of temptations all the over the place. From the creation of the world, Satan has continuously packaged sin to be so attractive and very hard to resist. Even the first couple (Adam and Eve) couldn’t resist the deceitful package of sin. The trend continued with generations that followed from the simple men to the greatest including kings like David. It was only one man in history who could reject the juiciest package of sin. This man is our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jesus was lured with three great packages of sin before his ministry started. First, to turn from the power of God toward the power of self-satisfaction (i.e. turn stone into bread). Then, throw yourself down said Satan to turn toward the power of self-accomplishment. Lastly to turn towards the power of self-glorification by bowing to Satan (Matthew 4). If Satan was bold enough to serve Christ with these packages of sin, who are we? Therefore, do not trust yourself but trust the only High Priest (Christ) who passed the temptation of the deceiver.

We are being faced daily with similar deceitful packages of sin but with different labels. Humanity is self-centered and looking for self-satisfaction, self-accomplishment and self-glorification. Christians are not hopeless in this situation. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners and purify your hearts you double-minded (James 4:7-9).

Let us beware of sin. It always appear tasty, feels and looks so good from the outside. It’s just a deadly trap, resist with the power of Christ before you regret the consequences of accepting the package of sin. Amen
