Marriage, a call to holiness
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (NIV) Genesis 2:18
Family is the basic unit of this world and as such a very important institution established by God. Families are created through marriage to stay together in a peaceful atmosphere or environment called home. How should the ideal home be according to the intentions and expectations of God?
The divine purpose of marriage is to demonstrate God’s holiness. God did not design marriage to be problem-free (always smooth and perfect). Perhaps, God’s purpose for us goes beyond our personal happiness and comfort.
Marriage is a call that demands the best of everything from the couple no matter how challenging it may be. Marriage needs mature love to survive. It needs sacrifice and forgiveness as the roots upon which the marriage tree can develop, grow and endure.
Marriage offers opportunities to grow deeper in our understanding of God. God’s purpose and focus on marriage are more than attaining romance and happiness but rather to achieve holiness. To achieve a holy marriage, it is incumbent to change yourself rather than expect your spouse to change. Changing yourself is difficult and demands divine assistance.
Do not expect too much satisfaction from your spouse because they cannot provide it. Depend on a good relationship with God to be happy. From God’s intentions, marriage must be maintained to bring glory and also direct others to Him. We can achieve a godly home through a good marriage with God on our side. To those who want to marry in future, consider marriage as a channel to achieve holiness for God. Amen!
