Heritage in Christ
"Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.” (NIV) Ephesians 1: 11
In life, we inherit properties from our parents, which we also pass on to our children and expect that they do the same to their children. Heritage, therefore, in theory, is anything that is passed on from generation to generation.
One can only inherit something that is within his/her family and nothing else. We can’t inherit any property that belongs to another family unless we have been given the right to through adoption. It is the same with God’s family.
When we were of the world, we were not part of God’s family. Today, by God’s designed plan, He has adopted us as His children in Christ and through Christ (Ephesians 1: 5; God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure). Therefore, as dearly beloved adopted children of God, we have been given direct access to God’s riches and glory. We received these riches and glory because we have accepted Christ, who is in charge of God’s entire riches and creation (Hebrews 3: 6, Colossians 1:15-20). We are co-heirs with Christ, our elder brother and Lord of our Life – (Hebrew 2:11-15).
