Urgent requests on the shelves

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

"But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison" (NIV) Genesis 40:14.

Recently, I noticed that I sometimes forget to say a prayer for friends and loved ones who asked me to intercede for them. And yet, I am usually quick to give assurance to people that 'I will' remember them in prayers (James 5:16a). My situation is similar to how Pharaoh's chief cupbearer forgot about Joseph after giving Joseph his full assurance. (Genesis 40:14, Genesis 41:9)

What about you? Do you have many prayer requests shelved and forgotten? Let’s remember that the effective prayer of the righteous can cause Heaven to intervene in situations (James 5:16b). Based on this, I have resolved to give every prayer request an 'on-the-go' attention; pausing to talk to the Lord rather than risking postponing prayers and putting them on the shelves in the end.

May we strive to empty our dormant prayer shelves and constantly make mention of brethren, their requests, situations and even the entire world to the Lord in prayers (1Thessalonians 5:17). There cannot be a better time than now.
