One evening a loving mother gave her little child five gumdrops. This mother also told her dear child that this was all she was going to be getting for that day. It would do no good to beg for more. The little girl took the five gumdrops and without a moment’s hesitation immediately ate four of the five candies.

The child noticed that she only had one gumdrop left in her little hand. Gracie lingered over that last piece of candy. She sucked on it, took it out of her mouth, bit into it, and sucked on it some more. She took over thirty minutes before the gumdrop was finally gone. She understood her mother meant what she said that she would not get any more. She wanted to take her time to ingest it so as to savor it until the last!

Her mother watched her little girl with much amusement. It occurred to her that she was watching her child learn the value of savoring, enjoying, and tasting every sweet morsel. She also knew that her child was learning to draw every pleasure offered by the gumdrop. What a pleasurable experience this child was having with her last piece of candy.

I thought how we can savor, enjoy, and taste the sweetness of our relationship with the Lord. I also thought how the Lord looks down upon His own as sees us enjoying Him so much! In Psalms 34:1-10, we read, “I WILL bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all of his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”

When we read in verse 8, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good,” we can be sure that God wants us to “savor” His presence! He allows us to gain intimate and satisfying knowledge of Him. And when we meditate upon His Holy Word, we will draw out a deeper understanding of who He is. (Ezek. 3:1-3). As we taste His goodness and love, He will reveal the distinctive flavor of His creativity, sovereignty, holiness, and faithfulness! Our greatest privilege is to enjoy God’s ever presence. When we get to this place in our lives, “the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” (Ps. 34:10).

Are you ready to receive all that the Lord has to offer to His own? Those who choose not to come to the feast of Christianity are missing out on more than even they can comprehend! In addition to the earthly gifts from heaven, there is the eternal that will be far better than anything this world has to offer! Come and give the Lord a try. I promise if you obey, He will keep His promises to you! This is more than man or Satan has to offer you!
