What do you have?

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” (NKJV) Exodus 4:2

God in His infinite wisdom created humanity with different talents and abilities. He has also distributed the human race to different geographical locations that better suits them. Most of the time, we complain because we look at others rather than ourselves for what we can do. And since we do not have the same gift or talent, we end up being discouraged when we make such a comparison.

If we will stop comparing ourselves to others and concentrate on who we are and what we possess, we can achieve a lot for God and mankind. Deep within us is a fountain of blessings and potentials which we fail to see. Many have entered the grave with untapped talents. Beloved, I am not referring to extraordinary talents but the “little” unique talent you were endowed with. It is something of importance to yourself, the church, and the world as a whole. Let’s take a look at some biblical examples of people who identified what they had and God used that to perform miracles that benefited them and their loved ones:

1. Exodus 4:1-17: Moses had a rod which became a miraculous tool to deliver Israel.

2. 1 Kings 17:8-24: The widow at the time of Elijah did not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin and a little oil in a jar but God blessed them and she was able to survive on that till food became abundant.

3. 2 Kings 4:1-7: The widow who came to Elisha had only a small jar of oil that became her massive business capital.

4. Matthew 14:13-21: The crowd with Jesus had only five loaves and two fishes that fed more than 5,000 people.

5. John 2:1-14: The organizers of the banquet Jesus attended had water but Jesus changed the water into the best wine of the occasion.

All the people mentioned above had something in hand but they underestimated the value of what they had. God in His infinite wisdom and power used the very ordinary things these people possessed to transform their lives in extraordinary ways. Similarly, we have something valuable God can use for our benefit or the benefit of the people around us. We can only see it if we begin to appreciate who we are and what we possess. What you have can be a source of blessing to the world. Amen!
