Joy in My Heart

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.” (NIV) 2 Peter 1:10

We live in a world where care and love for others keep dwindling. Each one for him or herself and God for us all is the slogan. There is so much mistrust among humanity that some think there is nothing good under the sun. After considering all that the physical world has to offer, some give up and accept grieve as their portion in this life never to experience joy. How many moments of genuine joy have I had in my life?

Joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Joy is something greater than happiness. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, and when we find joy it's infused with comfort and wrapped in peace. Joy has a quality of eternity and promises deep contentment that withstands the challenges of each day’s journey. Joy can be rare and is precious, but it achievable and sustains us. So enjoy it, share it, cherish it, and give it out to others if experience it. But being joyful is always not easy especially when faced with real-life difficulties.

The world is full of darkness and wickedness because of sin in the heart of mankind. Love is gone cold, human hearts are bleeding, breaking and depressed. Unfortunately, many think joy can be bought, downloaded, exchanged for cash, stolen, hoarded, hidden and marketed by clever souls within the modern world. Many think joy is only obtained through power and possessions and that is great deception too.

How can we have joy in such a wicked world? The fullness of our joy is to behold God in all we do. Unfortunately, wealth alone cannot guarantee joy because it comes from God and it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22). If you do a good job for others, you heal yourself at the same time, because a dose of joy is a spiritual cure. Become part of God’s kingdom, remain faithful in Him and feed on His word to have true joy. Remember, the prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing (Prov. 10:28).
