Contentment in disappointment

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act.” (ESV) Psalm 37:4-5

In 2017, I applied for a scholarship to study in a renowned foreign institution. The project was great, my proposal was nothing short of exciting and I was delighted to join the team. After going through a rigorous, tedious application process, and having gathered experiences from previous failed applications, I was confident I will succeed with this one. I was crushed when I failed to make the selection. My health and confidence declined drastically, and so did my trust in God.

In my disappointment, I could only trust that my ways were not God’s ways and that God’s purposes for my life were greater than mine.

Years down the line, I had a fantastic opportunity to join a different project with everything I wished for granted to me. The results were more than I could imagine. Not only was everything on my wish list ticked, but I also got the opportunity to develop a more intimate relationship with God, family, and friends. God made things happen that no man could take credit for.

Many times, we struggle with the reality that indeed, God knows what is best for us. As we learn to trust in Him and His promises, we realize His plans always prove to be for our good and His praise.

We may not always see the good in His plans for us immediately but there is an assurance that He shall direct our paths when we put our trust in Him and acknowledge Him in all our ways (Prov. 3:5-6).
