The most shameful and stigmatized death: death on the cross

Written by Emelia Darko Adzimah & Worlanyo Komla Adzimah.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NKJV) Hebrews 12:1-2.

Are you suffering from an infirmity, a condition, a disorder, or a situation you never asked for in life? Do you feel the stigma and shame these issues bring? Do you feel you are talked about because of these, do people encourage you to seek refuge where God would not approve? Do you feel “beaten” by these things you never asked for that wreak havoc every time, but you wake up each day, put yourself together however tough it is, smile and take care of your responsibilities? This can only mean you are that special child of God.

Your punches back to this world should be the word of God and nothing else! Below are examples of encouraging words you could use to beat the world with:

  • God is with us always and knows what we are going through.
  • He will not let temptations that are above us befall us (1 Corinthians 10:13).
  • I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:1).
  • What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? (Psalm 8:4)
  • You may also read Heb 11 that mentions the honour roll, men and women of faith who stood every test of time.

Hebrews 12:2 talks about the shameful death of Christ. He died like he was a criminal and in those days that was the most shameful and stigmatized death one could go through, but Christ overcame the shame and now sits on the right hand of God!

Christ is our example, and we should despise every shame and stigma there are and continue to live for Christ. Be strong, for there is a reward someday if we are not broken by the words of this world and sin against our maker. Stay strong and let Christ continue to be your example. God bless us all.
